Nikki + Wes // Fall Engagement Session at Lick Creek Park
Nov 27, 2018 | By: Mary Pena Photography
I just met Nikki and Wes a few weeks ago, when they chose me to be their wedding photographer. We scheduled their engagement session in a hurry, because they wanted to do them before Christmas and it's starting to get cold outside! The day of their shoot arrived, and a chilly wind was blowing, but Nikki is from the North so I knew she wouldn't mind. Wes and I, native Texans, would just suffer through.
I took them out to Lick Creek Park, and planned to take them to all of my favorite spots. This time of year, I feel like Lick Creek looks a little different every time I'm there, because the colors are always changing along the spectrum of green to gold to grey. It's fun to get new "looks" at each shoot, and this was no different. Walking from one spot to another, we found a tree that had turned completely orange! We certainly don't get to see a lot of that in Texas, and it will probably be bare and grey by next week. They were good sports and walked through some tall grass so that I could get the orange in some of their shots, and I love the result. With Nikki's forest green sweater popping against the orange and golds, I felt like I was shooting an editorial spread about Thanksgiving!
Just to hammer home the "fall-y" feel, we even found a heart shaped leaf to use in some ring shots. I think it's cute, but you can judge for yourself.
