Blake + Sara // Rainy day wedding at Peach Creek Ranch
Jun 18, 2019 | By: Mary Pena Photography
If I had gotten to choose which venue I wanted to be at during a thunderstorm ceremony, Peach Creek Ranch would be the first words out of my mouth. Because of their enormous covered patio, brides and grooms have the option to have an "outdoor" wedding even in the rain. Sara and Blake knew storms would be rolling through the afternoon of their wedding, and made the call the day before to set up for a covered patio ceremony. I packed extra rain gear (read: trash bags) and headed out with high hopes.
Pouring rain when I showed up to the venue gave way to cloudy skies for the afternoon prep time. Cloudy skies can actually be a photographer's best friend! Normally harsh midday light is diffused a bit, and there is an opportunity to take sunset-esque pictures earlier in the day. Sara and Blake also had planned for a first look, which meant we could do bride/groom portraits before the ceremony. When I saw that usable light, I suggested we go ahead and take some just in case that was our only chance. Boy, am I glad they obliged! By the time the ceremony time rolled around, we had already taken all the potraits we needed and a huge thunderstorm rolled in. As I stood at the front of the aisle listening to the loud claps of thunder, it seemed like a unique and dramatic way to say your vows! As Sara came down the aisle, mother nature kicked the drama up a notch and killed power to the venue. Yep, you heard that. About a third of the way down the aisle, the music and lights cut out. But it was truly a sweet moment, because the guests all started clapping and cheering the rest of the way. Blake and Sara were married under the patio, in our little calm spot amidst the storm, and emerged as husband and wife with a fun wedding story to tell.
The reception was enjoyed by all, with a good party on the dance floor all evening long. A sparkler exit was planned for 10 pm, and at 9:50, a hurricane came through. Not really, but that's what it looked like outside! Always ready to roll with the punches, Blake and Sara ran through a line of guests right through the middle of the reception hall and escaped to their limo with the help of umbrellas.
Honestly, it was a wonderfully unique day for a very sweet couple. Their willingness to be flexible and find humor in situations is going to serve them well as they start their lives together.
Congrats you two, and thank you for letting me watch #SaraGetsMahered!
