Madison + Nate // Century Tree and Lake Bryan Engagement
Oct 16, 2017 | By: Mary Pena Photography
I was really excited for this engagement shoot because I got to try a new location, Lake Bryan! Madison requested, like any good Aggie, that we start on campus to get some shots with the Century Tree. I knew with the nice fall weather on a weekend we would not be the only ones with that idea. We shared the tree with another family taking their portraits, which is no problem because we take turns with spots and angles. It is much trickier to share the tree with someone actually doing a proposal, so I was happy to see that wasn't taking place while we were there.
Next, it was on to the lake! I hadn't been to Lake Bryan in about 11 years, since I went my senior year with my Corps buddies for an impromptu campout. I think I will have to add it to my list of portrait locations though, because we found the nicest little spot of beach.
We were chasing the light big time, and of course I forgot my camera in my car once we got down to the beach. I didn't want Madison and Nate to look sweaty, so my little legs ran back to the car. When I say chasing light, I really mean it. We were trying to catch the sunset as it moved between a cloud layer and the horizon, and had about 10 minutes of good light. I ran faster than I have in quite some time, and when I got back to the beach, there was no time to stop and catch my breath. Madison and Nate were gracious to take posing directions from me in between my heavy breathing. We squeezed a lot into those 10 minutes, and I'm loving the warm light in the sky at the end of the session.
Madison and Nate were so laid back and easy-going that I wish I could have stayed with them and enjoyed a nice dinner at the lake restaurant. Alas, my toddler boys were expecting me home in time for baths and bedtime, so I left them to their dinner and headed home.
Madison and Nate are actually my next wedding, in early December, so I will be seeing them soon! I love portrait season, it's great to get to know my brides and couples during their engagement and bridal sessions. But, I'm already yearning for those teary eyed moments and decorative details to photograph that come with the wedding day, and so December 2nd can't come soon enough.
